FALL JAMBOREE '98

Well, the Fall ‘98 Northeast Typewriter Collectors Jamboree was held on a chilly November 14th in Southboro MA. There was a bakers dozen on hand from PA, NY, CT, MA and RI, all prepared for a good time. From beginner to advanced, all were engaged in spirited discussion and trading. On hand for show & tell were a Coffman, Postal 7, Boston, Hammond 2 retro-fit for the blind, Nickeled Victor Index, Peoples, an early “graceful” World, very low s/n Commercial Visible, inventors model of the Morris type and a few others!

Something that was done at a meeting a few years back was a “Guess The Machine” game!! We thought we'd try it! 5 machines were under wraps for attendees to touch and otherwise feel around, but there was no peeking allowed! There were a few stumpers thrown in, and the odds were on the side of the table. We took a few machines of ours and had one from Dennis Clark and another from Ron Ronzio, and no one got them all. Think you could do it? Picture trying to guess these while essentially blindfolded: Stearns, Harris Visible, Barlet, understrike Fox #1 and a Shimer! It was fun to see the determination on attendees faces while trying to figure them out by investigating the subtleties of each machine under wraps!

How the attendees were greeted: Wave "Hello" Ron!!

Available for sale and trade were more than 3 dozen assorted machines including a Densmore 2, World, Chinese typewriter, Blick 7, featherweight Blick with a short platen, Oliver 3, Hammond 12, a couple of early Caligraph 2s, a bevy of portables and many more.

We hope everyone had as good a time being there as we did hosting it, and thanks to each of the attendees for coming! Mark your calendars for May 15th of ‘99 for the Spring Jamboree! It’s at the end of Brimfield week, so if possible, come in a few days early and enjoy!!
